Cool feet for hot days

It's been hot this past few days in England (well, it's started raining now surprise surprise!). So I was inspired to paint some more ice cream shoes.

They're up for sale in the shop NOW. Go buy them before your feet overheat.

And here's some pictures of them making friends with my mint choc chip brogues, also for sale here.

Am I a complete weirdo for imaging shoes have friends?

Etsy Shop Feature: Ninainvorm Ceramics

I'm always in awe of an Etsy seller who really knows how to display their products. It's something I'm learning as I go, I'm certainly not a natural at it.

The first thing that struck me about Ninainvorm Ceramics were the way they display their ceramics on backgrounds that really compliment their colourful and fun work. I'm a sucker for bright colours and love ceramics. But when I found out this shop also upcycles vintage ceramics I knew I was in love.

Take a look at their lovely stuff, I especially want the leaf/heart shaped plate with the birds on it. I don't think I could ever bear to use it as anything but display though, it's just too perfect to be used!

My week in photos - 30/05/12

Well, these are more like from the past couple of weeks cause I've been lazy and not taken many pictures lately.

1. My brooch arrived from Gusosos! It's so pretty. I haven't worn it yet but I'm going down to birmingham for the weekend so I'll show it off while I'm there.

2. I decided I want to do some new shoes and a bag for myself. So I'm half way through painting this pair of mocassins and upcycling this vintage bag. Can you guess what it's going to be yet?

3. I'm upcycling lots of vintage bags at the mo. Keep your eyes peeled for some in the shop and a giveaway over the next month :)

4. Playing around with brogues in adobe illustrator for my new blog design. Although I keep leaving it because illustrator is so infuriating!

5. I made a vegan carrot cake for a bbq at the weekend. I was very impressed with my "cream cheese" frosting but not so much with the decoration or the texture of the cake. My recipe still needs perfecting before I put it on the blog.

6. I love lilac!! So I'm painting lots of lilac shoes for the shop right now :)

7. Playing with patterns for some material designs!

8. Nommy vegan chocolate and orange shortbread that I made today. Will post the recipe tomorrow!!

Wednesday Art Feature: Anita Mejía

This week I'd like to show you the art of Anita Mejía, an illustrator from Mexico.
Anita is probably most well known for her creepy cute digital illustrations, although her traditional drawings are well worth a look too! I personally love her mixed media sewn illustrations though, like this one:

Here are a few of her digital pieces that I love:

Anita has tons more amazing artwork on her Blog, DeviantArt and Facebook.
She even has super cute skins for sale that you can buy for your laptop/ipod.

Etsy Shop Feature: Horrible Sweet

This morning, I stumbled across a combination of my favouritest things; awesome etsy shops and monster sculptures.

Horrible Sweet is an etsy shop that sells the work of Lydia Dekker, an artist from the Netherlands.
Her creations, in my opinion, couldn't possibly be more perfect. The combination of creepy and cute combined with pastel colours and shit loads of awesome eyes.

Unfortunately, I can't afford to cover my house in her monstrous cuties just yet, so I'll have to settle for stalking her website and blog instead.

Wednesday Art Feauture: Raquel Sanchez Pros

I don't always dicover artists through Deviant Art and art books, I was lucky enough to stumble upon Raquels work through seeing one of her brooches.
I discovered this wonderful brooch through reading a blog post by Lazy Explorers, I knew I HAD to buy it straight away.
She also has a few other brooch designs available:

I've absolutely fallen in love with the illustrations that she has available on her Etsy store, they're just the perfect mixture of cute and stylish. I will definitely be decorating my house with some when I can afford it.

Raquel lives in Valencia, Spain and worked for 7 years as a graphic designer before discovering her passion for illustration.

She's also pretty amazing at sewing. I just love these sewn illustrations:

Wednesday Art Feature: Fernando de Souza

This week I'd like to introduce you to an artist who I've admired for a long time! The Brazilian digital illustrator, Fernando de Souza. Known as Ferlancer on Deviantart.

I particularly like his portraits of celebrities, and was especially excited when I saw this one of Yolandi Visser:
Fernando's work has a fun and comical characteristic, the portaits he does are usually missing a nose which I think makes them look humorous and alien.

If you would like to see more of Fernando's work, check out his DeviantArt and his Blog.

Latest Shoes!!

I've been a busy bee this week, working on some handbags for a photoshoot and doing a few custom orders too :)

I seem to be getting lots of people wanting me to do shoes with their pets on these days. I think this is my new favourite thing to paint. When I get a spare few hours I think I'm going to have to paint myself some poodle and husky shoes so Effy and Holly don't feel left out!!

Here's my newest customs:

Cockermouth

Last weekend it was bank holiday weekend, so I booked the weekend off and decided to visit an old friend. She's recently moved to Cockermouth in the Lake District and I hadn't yet had time to visit her.

I had such an amazing weekend, Cockermouth is one of the most beautiful places I've visited. All of the houses are painted in lovely vibrant colours and the town is so beautifully decorated. I was lucky enough to be there on the weekend that they had a Georgian Fayre on. Lots of the locals were dressed in Georgian costumes and there were people morris dancing dressed in hilarious outfits, some were even dressed as crows.

Unfortunately my camera died a day into the trip so I didn't get many photos! Here are the ones I managed to get:

Wednesday Art feature: Nekranea

I'm going to try and post a new art or craft feature each Wednesday from now on.
I thought i'd start off with a completely inspiring and talented artist named Nekranea.
I first stumbled upon her DeviantArt account a few months ago and immediately fell in love with the creatures she makes.

Nekranea is a spanish artist, she specialises in one of a kind art dolls made from polymer clay (painted with acrylics) and needle felting. She displays her work beautifully in woodland scenes, making them look like real creatures.

Nekranea is not just a talented doll maker, she is also a great illustrator and has a shop where you can purchase prints, clothing, decorations and lots of other things featuring her artwork.

If you want to see more work by Nekranea check out her personal website, shop, Deviant Art and blog.
