Happy Halloween!

Happy Halloween everyone!! I'll be spending today painting and I'm watching Silent Hill tonight. What are you Halloween plans?

Just to get you into the Halloween spirit, why don't you try making one of my delicious & disgusting swamp smoothies? (Yes I used tapioca pearls in this recipe AGAIN. I'm still obsessed with them.) I posted the recipe on Modern Girl Blitz, thank you to the lovely Midge for letting me guest post on her blog!

Easy pumpkin cupcake toppers

I've tried and failed at pumpkin cupcakes so many times this year! The last batch turned out pretty good but I forgot to write down my ingredients and now it's long forgotten!

However, one good thing that came out of having to decorate so many failed cupcakes is my quick and easy cupcake toppers!

What you will need (for 6 cupcake toppers):
200g Ready made royal icing
Black & green mini cake icers
Icing sugar
Orange food colouring (concentrated gels are the more effective)

Method:
  1. Mix some orange food colouring into the royal icing, adding a little at a time until you get a nice bright orange.
  2. Divide the royal icing into 6 even pieces. Roll each piece into a little ball, if the icing is a bit sticky you can dust your hands with icing sugar.
  3. Squash each little ball slightly. With the blunt side of a clean, dry knife mark the little indents along the sides of each pumpkin.
  4. Add a little blob of green icing on the top of each pumpkin. Allow to dry.
  5. With the black icing draw little smiley faces on. Try and leave the pumpkins on their side for a while so the black dosn't drip while it's drying.
  6. Once the black icing is dry the pumpkins are ready to use!! They look great on cupcakes, or stacked up on a bigger cake.

Fashion Favs Friday - 26/10/12 Halloween Edition!

1. I Love NP - I stumbled upon this etsy store this morning. I can't get over how awesome their nail polishes look. If I owned all of their nail polishes I would get extra hands transplanted so I could wear them all at once. Plus I'd be able to blog while painting so it's a win win situation.

2. Crafty Ridge - Geeky crocheted costumes??? This shop is heaven for anyone who likes costumes with a difference. I'm on love with the crocheted Princess wig.

3. Yes To Me - This shop sells a multitude of things. But I especially like their skeleton tights and the way they've styled them with a net skirt to create a ghostly look.

4. Miesmesa Berni - These masks are a must have if you like to creep the crap out of people. Perfect for halloween or if you just like to look scary on any occasion.

5. Basic Style - I love this shop and their on trend clothing. They have such a great variety of prints and I love their new Halloween themed leggings and t-shirts!

Etsy Shop Feature: Distle Funk

Distle Funk specialise in adorable ceramic cookie stamps. These cookie stamps can not only be used for decorating cookies, they can be used for crafts and all sorts. I can just imagine how beautiful these patterns will look on a freshly baked, shortbread cookie.

"Cookie Stamps have become a much-loved tradition in countless kitchens around the world. These adorable, handcrafted clay stamps follow the Scandinavian and Pennsylvania Dutch custom of decorating cookies with designs made from carved stamps. It was discovered not long after that cookie stamps were also great for stamping just about anything- clay, paper, wax, chocolate, fondant."

Which one is your favourite? And what would you use it for? I'd like the labrador one, I'd use it to make little chocolate labrador cake decorations.

What I Wore #4 - Deer and the Bear Dog

Apologies for the bad lighting and awful pose. It's been a bit gloomy here in the North of England lately, so not ideal for taking photos. And Effy kept trying to put her head up my dress for the photos, hence the bad pose. That dog needs to learn some photo manners ha! She's such a gross little scruffpot.
Cardigan: Upper 5th for Topshop
Dress: Lavish Alice
Shoes: Matalan
Leggings: H&M
Brooch: Gusosos

Wednesday Art Feature: Kristina Møller

Kristina Møller is a Canadian artist based in Toronto. Her work combines two of my most favourite things, pretty colours and animals! I often find myself wishing I could see the world through the eyes of different artists, and Kristina is certainly one of them. Her imaginitive paintings and confused, childlike portraits are so unique.

She sells her original work too, and for such reasonable prices! I have so many of her paintings on my Christmas wish list. I can't wait to decorate my house with her adorable little cat & dog paintings.

Which one is your favourite? Mine is the girl with the turquoise hair.
