Art Feature: Ryna Ordynat

While browsing Etsy for Adventure Time themed items for my Adventure Time Treasury & my Game of Thrones Treasury, I came accross Ryna Arts, and decided this talented lady deserved her very own post.

Ryna is from Melbourne and is an archaeology student but draws and paints in her spare time. She specialises in painting fan art and fantasy in her own unique style. Ryna uses mainly watercolours and graphite pencils in her work.

Most of you will know by now that I'm a massive Adventure Time geek, so I almost squealed with excitement at seeing Ryna's fan art of Fionna! I'm also a big Game of Thrones fan and I absolutely love the way she's captured the Game of Thrones characters in her own style.

Wednesday Art Feature: Uncle Patrick (Lauren Young Smith)

Uncle Patrick (aka Lauren YoungSmith) is one of my newest finds of Deviant Art. Her gallery is stunning, it's full of weird creatures and creepy humanoids. I'm absolutely in love with her work, I wish I could jump in her head and see all of the monsters and creatures she comes up with.

Anke Weckmann is a London based artist originally from Germany. Her work is light hearted and often includes animals (especially cats!). I love the way she draws clothes & materials, I can see her work would translate beautifully to fashion illustration.

Beautiful Forever - Temporary Tattoos

When I was a kid I was obsessed with temporary tattoos. I would cover my arms (and sometimes my face, much to my parents disapproval) in butterflies, spiders and unicorns. Temporary tattoos back then were pretty unoriginal and limited to ponies and fairies for girls and spiders and tribal for boys. We we starved of awesome grumpy cat and donut tattoos.

Recently, one of my fav bloggers & artists, Michelle from Creature Type told me about an exhibition she was taking part in: Beautiful Forever - A tribute to tattoos. You can check out Michelle's blog post about the exhibition here.

Beautiful Forever is a collection of temporary tattoos designs, designed by 40 contemporary illustrators. It's showing March 22, 2013 through April 12th, 2013 at Light Grey Art Lab Minneapolis, so if you're lucky enough to live close by, pop in and cover yourself in grumpy cat and lil bub tattoos! As a tattoo lover and also someone who's maybe a little too impulsive when it comes to permanent decisions, I love these temporary tattoos! What's better than wearable art that you can remove and replace when you want a different look?

Not only does this exhibition contain kick ass art work, but it's also for a great cause. Minneapolis tattoo artist Tom Strom was involved in a bad biking accident and needs back surgery. Proceeds of temporary tattoo sales will go towards Tom's recovery.

Wednesday Art Feature: Hannakin

I first came across Hannakin's (Hanna Mancini's) work when I found her ridiculously cute plushies on etsy. I soon realised just how multi talented Hanna was when I saw her adorable original artwork.

Hanna's work is full of imagination, whimsy and fun. Each of her illustrations seems to tell a story of it's own. I love that she paints on recyled paper, envelopes, labels and books.

Wednesday Art Feature: Chertila

Chertila is probably the youngest artist I've featured on my weekly art features. She's only 17 and already has so much talent.

I love her linework and how she draws figures. Over the past year I've watched her work really develop on Deviant Art and I'm looking forward to seeing what she comes up with in the next few years! She's definitely one to watch out for!

A lot of Chertila's work is inspired by Radiohead. I think you can see this a lot in her work, there's a delicate and vulnerable feeling to it.

Wednesday Art Feature: Grelin Machin

Grelin Machin is one of those people you can't help but admire. Not only is she skilled in digital illustration, but she can also paint, make kick ass plushies and sculpt too!

Her work really stands out to me because of her great use of bright colours and her creepy/cute style. I love the way she illustrates beautiful women surrounded by creepy and adorable monsters.

Grelin's work has been a constant source of inspiration to me, in fact, it was her work that made me start learning adobe illustrator! I hope one day I can be almost as skilled as this talented lady.

Wednesday Art Feature: Matthew Roby

I first discovered Matthew Roby's work through some friends that worked with him on his animation; Reel. Reel reminds me of when English kids TV actually had a decent budget (the days before the tweenies!) and they took the time to produce beautiful, stylised stories.

Matthew 's illustration style takes me straight back to my childhood, and my love of reading (well, more my love of looking at the pictures in books!). I could imagine the child in me spending hours just staring at the illustrations in his books.

Matthew dosn't just illustrate, he also does weird and awesome sculptures. I love how he finds the fine line between creepy and humorous. I'd love to know the back stories behind these amusing and intricate characters her creates.

Wednesday Art Feature: Maia Larkin

Maia Larkin is a Denver based childrens fashion illustrator. Her work always looks to me as if it would be right at home in a childrens story book. Her beautiful linework, combined with pattern and a selective use of colour make her style really fun and distinctive.

Maia also does jointed art dolls and plushie dolls which I think compliment and work with her art style really well.

Which is your favorite of her work? I think mine has to be the British Horse, he looks so proud and handsome!
