Desk of the Day 29/08/2013

This week I've had a realllly fun digital portrait order to work on, and I thought I'd give you a sneak peak of it. I've been working on 5 portraits of some girls with really rad style. It's always so fun when I get to illustrate people with unusual hair, make up and fun hats.

If you'd like your own digital portrait, check out my Etsy Shop or email me at ponychopsshop@gmail.com for illustration enquiries.

Pink on the Cheek

A couple of weeks ago Lauren from Pink on the Cheek asked me to do a digital illustration to go with her new blog design (above is the banner she used the illustration in).

Lauren wanted something pretty simple, a blonde lady with rosy cheeks and no background. I usually tend to keep my illustrations busy and bright, so it was really nice to get back to basics and work on a simple illustration. It gave me space to really think about the skin tone and hair colour.

I couldn't decide between a more yellowish blonde or an ash blonde tone, so I let Lauren choose. She ended up choosing the more yellowish tone which works really nicely with the pink font.

If you'd like your own digital illustration, check out my custom illustration listing in my shop or email me at ponychopsshop @ gmail.com

Here are both the ash blonde and the yellow blonde finished illustrations:

Wednesday Art Feature: Grelin Machin

Grelin Machin is one of those people you can't help but admire. Not only is she skilled in digital illustration, but she can also paint, make kick ass plushies and sculpt too!

Her work really stands out to me because of her great use of bright colours and her creepy/cute style. I love the way she illustrates beautiful women surrounded by creepy and adorable monsters.

Grelin's work has been a constant source of inspiration to me, in fact, it was her work that made me start learning adobe illustrator! I hope one day I can be almost as skilled as this talented lady.

Wednesday Art Feature: Aleksandra Marchocka

Aleksandra has been on my Deviant watch for a while now. Whenever I see one of her deviations pop up on my dashboard I'm immediately in awe. I love the way Aleksandra draws such sexy, beautiful and strong women. She has a great eye from composition and her linework is always perfect.

Aleksandra is a Polish artist, she's a graphic designer but also specialises in digital illustrations for books, magazines, game art, web design. logo design and T-shirt graphics. She also does tattoo design commissions, I can imagine her art would work perfectly as a clearn and stunning tattoo!

Digital Illustration: Olive & Ivy

A few weeks ago I had the pleasure of illustrating a portrait of the lovely Chelsea from Olive & Ivy.

Chelsea is a fashionista that likes girly - but not too girly - things, and of course, cats! So I tried to show this in the illustration of her. I had so much fun doing Chelsea's lovely ombre, slightly curled hair.

I did two options for her to choose from, one with glasses and one without. I think I like the glasses one best.

Digital Portrait: The Koala

Before Christmas, a lady who used to stable her horse at the same yard as me commissioned a digital portrait of one of her friends Catherine. Catherine is a big fan of the band MUSE and her nickname is Koala! It was so fun to mix the two, I'm particularly happy with how the koala hat turned out.

Wednesday Art Feature: Rosie Wilman

I first discovered Rosie Wilman's work about a year ago through Deviantart. Throughout the time I've followed her work, she's posted a monster illustration every day! It's been so nice to see her style progress on a daily basis, and it's so awesome to see an adorable little monster on my Deviant dashboard every day. She's also from the North West of the UK like me! I'm always so excited to find local talented people.

Rosie has recently been asked to illustrate some childrens books, and the work she is producing for them is so cute! I just had to share it with you all:

Wednesday Art Feature: Hattie Stewart

Never have I felt more at home than when staring at Hattie Stewart's tumblr page, full of penis's, tits, bright colours, pattern and goofy looking creatures.
Hattie is an illustrator based in London. Her creations are bright, eye catching and unignorable (if that is even a word).

You'll probably recognise her shiz as she's worked with some awesome fashion brands such as Diesel, Adidas and House of Holland.

My favourite fashion collaboration however, has to be her work with Kitty Keay! I want all of these clothes so much!!

If you want to check out more of Hattie's work, take a look at her website, blog and tumblr.

Thank you Fernando De Souza

Do you remember my art feature on Fernando De Souza a couple of weeks ago? After he saw my feature he very kindly offered to do a portrait of me. Of course, I couldn't refuse!!

Here is the finished portrait:

I LOVE LOVE LOVE it! I especially love that my top has the ponychops logo on it!
Also, I am in love with how he's done my hair, it kind of makes me want to shave my side bit again.
