Vegan Food Review - Vegusto Vegan Cheese

Remember a couple of months back I did a review on Vegusto vegan "meats"? Well, they sent me a ton of cheeses to try too!

As a previous cheese addict, when I turned vegan the thing I missed most was cheese. Most of the UK fake cheeses are disgusting, I have actually been sick at the taste of a few. So I had resigned myself to a cheeseless existence, until Vegusto came along.

Vegusto are a Swiss based company that sell great quality Vegan products such as 'cheeses' and 'meats'. Their 'cheeses' are based on coconut, rapeseed and sunflower oils & almonds. Check out their FAQ page to find out what goes in to (and what dosn't go into!) their cheeses.

Here's what I thought of their cheeses:

No Moo Mild - This was the first of the Vegusto cheese that I tried. The first thing that struck me was the texture was a delight compared to the rubbery feel of a lot of vegan cheeses. It also dosn't have that weird fake taste that knocks me sick about most vegan cheese.

No Moo Piquant - This cheese was very strong flavored and rich. I enjoyed it combined with other food but on it's own it still tasted a little fake and slightly too rich for my taste. I enjoyed this cheese the least.

No Moo Golden - This had a slight fruity flavor, it was a little stronger than the No Moo Mild but still pleasant and had no weird fake taste.

No Moo Herb - I can't shut up about this cheese! I actually ate the whole block within 2 days. It was heaven on a bagel or with some crackers, it was actually really yummy just on it's own too! This is the most like real cheese of the lot, I'll definitely be treating myself to this more often.

No Moo Melty  - This cheese melted really nicely, and was a great texture. It was nice to combine a little of this with the No Moo Mild to create a better texture and flavor. I'm not 100% sold on the taste though. It had a slightly fake after taste (although this wasn't noticeable when combined with the No Moo Burgers).

No Moo Sauce  - Me and Ash made a giant lasagne using this sauce as white sauce (recipe to come). Since Ash eats normal cheese I was a little worried he'd find this an odd flavor. We both really enjoyed it though, it tasted like proper lasagne! I will be buying this again, it's much easier than making your own vegan white sauce!

I have a couple of recipes using Vegusto cheeses coming up in the next couple of weeks too :)

    1. I def recommend the vegusto herb then! It's way less fatty tasting than regular cheese but it still tastes really nice and compliments most savory food really well!

  3. I've had some really bag vegan cheese too. Then there are those that don' taste anything like cheese, but they're really good anyway. So far vegan cheese only manages to taste like cheap processed cheese to me, not the really good stuff. It's good for toasted sandwiches and pizza, but I really miss proper cheese.

    1. Oh my goshhh, Daiya is heaven isn't it! I wish they sold it in the UK. I pretty much lived on the stuff when I visited NY. In my opinion the only vegan cheese that comes close to Daiya is vegusto. All the other brands just taste like rubber and sick to me haha

  6. This is so awesome! I find that so many people who want to go vegan DON'T because of their love for cheese. I am glad I can live without cheese, but I know MANY people think they can't. I actually met a woman yesterday who has been vegan for 30 years! She was saying how much easier it is to be vegan now a days with all the food choices out there!!!! Great post. Keep spreading our love for veganism and vegan food!! :)

    1. It's definitely getting easier. Where I live there still isn't a brilliant selection of vegan "meats" and "cheeses" but luckily I like eating lots of beans and tofu! It was sooo nice to actually have a nice tasting cheese for once though, definitely going to be treating myself to some

  7. Thanks for this review. I'm not vegan, though I like to eat vegan often. Cheese and cream (in coffee) are two things I've always had a hard time giving up. I have never had a vegan cheese that I have enjoyed. They all suck so I am very excited to give No Moo Herb cheese a try! And the cream, well right now I'm attempting just to give up coffee too :)

As for cream, soya cream sucks dosn't it, I never understand that cause soya ice cream tastes so good!! I think coconut cream can be a really nice alternative though.

  9. I've seen them before, but they seem so expensive I never know which one to try! So thanks for the review
I always go for Cheezly, I think vegan cheeses have improved a lot over the years, but sheese still makes me want to puke!
