Alex & Arthur

Remember my Desk of the Day from Sunday? Well here is the finished illustration!

This has been my absolute favorite digital portraits so far. It's for Alex & Arthur, one of my fav blogs! I actually did some Arthur shoes for Alex a few months ago too. It never feels like work when you get to look at the adorable Arthur for reference pictures!

This felt like a super easy portrait to do because I already felt like I knew Alex's style and the kind of colours she likes. Alex asked me to include her dinosaur necklace, which I think works well. I wanted to find a way to make it a feature but not to over power the illustration.

You can get your own custom portrait here. Or if you don't have an Etsy account you can contact me about custom orders at: ponychopsshop@gmail.com

Phoebe & Rei

Do you remember a few months ago I painted some Justin Bieber sneakers and Persian Cat Sneakers? I painted them for the Canadian Much Music host Phoebe Dykstra.

Phoebe is a super cool lady, she has rad fashion sense and she's such a sweet person. Plus she has an adorable persian kitty named Rei. I just had to do an illustration of them both!

This was my first time illustrating tattoos in one of my digital portraits, and I'm happy with the way it turned out.

Here's the portrait of Phoebe & Rei, If you'd like your own portrait doing check out my custom listing on Etsy.

And here's a couple of photos of Phoebe & Rei. Look at Rei next to PonyChops sneakers!

You can find Phoebe on Twitter, Instagram & Tumblr. And Rei even has her own Instagram now!

Pink on the Cheek

A couple of weeks ago Lauren from Pink on the Cheek asked me to do a digital illustration to go with her new blog design (above is the banner she used the illustration in).

Lauren wanted something pretty simple, a blonde lady with rosy cheeks and no background. I usually tend to keep my illustrations busy and bright, so it was really nice to get back to basics and work on a simple illustration. It gave me space to really think about the skin tone and hair colour.

I couldn't decide between a more yellowish blonde or an ash blonde tone, so I let Lauren choose. She ended up choosing the more yellowish tone which works really nicely with the pink font.

If you'd like your own digital illustration, check out my custom illustration listing in my shop or email me at ponychopsshop @ gmail.com

Here are both the ash blonde and the yellow blonde finished illustrations:

Wednesday Art Feature: Aleksandra Marchocka

Aleksandra is a Polish artist, she's a graphic designer but also specialises in digital illustrations for books, magazines, game art, web design. logo design and T-shirt graphics. She also does tattoo design commissions, I can imagine her art would work perfectly as a clearn and stunning tattoo!

Digital Illustration: Olive & Ivy

A few weeks ago I had the pleasure of illustrating a portrait of the lovely Chelsea from Olive & Ivy.

Chelsea is a fashionista that likes girly - but not too girly - things, and of course, cats! So I tried to show this in the illustration of her. I had so much fun doing Chelsea's lovely ombre, slightly curled hair.

I did two options for her to choose from, one with glasses and one without. I think I like the glasses one best.

Digital Portrait: The Koala

Before Christmas, a lady who used to stable her horse at the same yard as me commissioned a digital portrait of one of her friends Catherine. Catherine is a big fan of the band MUSE and her nickname is Koala! It was so fun to mix the two, I'm particularly happy with how the koala hat turned out.

Wednesday Art Feature: Marcel Bakker

Being a big fan of childrens story book illustrations, I'm often drawn to simplistic, happy, quirky and carefree works that use lots of colour. Marcel Bakker's work is no exception.

Marcel's beautiful balance of digital work with water colour textures create the look of an intricate and perfect traditional illustration. I always admire an artist who can master the art of making digital artwork look almost traditional.
