Remake & Remodel - The inspiration

Most design subjects at uni require you to show your ideas through colour boards and mood boards. Here are the inspiration boards for my Remake & Remodel project. As you can see, my main inspiration came from bacteria and the simplistic 3D shapes of DNA. I wanted to combine the bright, business of the bacteria with simple and futuristic shapes.

You can see more of my uni work here.

Remake & Remodel - Bacteria Pattern

Leading on from my post a few days ago, after a couple of days catching up on crazy dog and fat cat cuddles, I'm feeling up to going into more detail on my current project!

This project is called Remake & Remodel. Our brief is to be inspired by a shoe we were given to deconstruct (pictures of this to come!). Deconstructing my shoe got me thinking about what goes into a shoe and what isn't shown. So, inspired by designers that use functioning parts as design features, I started thinking about what is inside us that dosn't show. I ended up looking into DNA, viruses and bacteria, all of which have some fabulous visuals to inspire a project.

Pattern has been a large part of the shoe designs I've been working on for this project, I wanted to add some fun and bright PonyChops style to these shoes. Here's a pattern I've designed and decided on to be in my final shoe design. I'm really pleased with how it's turned out, and think it works well with the style of shoe I've picked.

Where to stash your shoes

Today I have a guest post brought to you by Mari from Arcadian Home Blog. Mari is full of great ideas for interior design and storage solutions, her blog always leaves me wanting to decorate! Thanks Mari for this wonderful guest post that has left me wanting needing a walk in wardrobe in my tiny London house!

Hello, lovely blog readers! It’s Mari here with a guest post from Arcadian Home blog. It's a fantastic place to find interior design inspiration including great decorating ideas for everything from beautiful mini pendant lights to colorful and cozy rugs for the floor. With Chantal being the fabulous shoe designer that she is, it seemed most appropriate to do a guest post about where to stash your shoes. One thought lead to another and we wondered if shoes dream of the perfect place to relax and recuperate after running around at all hours of the day and night. To make a long story short, here are eight dream closets for shoes, though one might think they would prefer to rest peacefully on the soft carpet under the bed or stretch out in the corner behind the pink slipper chair. Perhaps we’ll never know, but in any case, please enjoy!

Shoe Storage
These dressy pumps hired a designer to do their closet—complete with Hermes orange background and leopard print carpet.
Shoe Storage
In the same fabulous walk-through closet, a few of the very special shoe designs got their own individual display shelves behind glass doors.
Shoe Storage
A sparkling rectangular glass pendant light is hung high in the center of this closet with stylish shoe storage shelves that keep these beauties organized and ready to slip on at a moment’s notice.
Shoe Storage
These dress shoes are lined up on custom shelves with stylish wallpaper background. It seems they too follow the latest interior design trends in wall coverings for the home.
Shoe Storage
Dark and moody, but so stylish and chic, this closet offers the discerning shoe lighted shelves for a comfortable life in the spotlight.
Shoe Storage
Meticulously organized and so fashionable with Hermes boxes and row upon row of footwear of every short, from sandals to tall leather boots, this closet is the perfect home for the shoe that loves structured living.
Shoe Storage
Pretty in pink with a tiny sparkly crystal chandelier, this large closet offers floor to ceiling shoe storage—stylish and practical too.
Shoe Storage
Only a few shoes are lucky enough to get the opportunity to hang out in a stunning designer closet like this where they have their own picture lights that ensure they’ll always be at center stage. Images 1 | 2 | 3 | 4 | 5 | 6 | 7 | 8 What do you think of these shoes? Leave us your comments below and come by the blog for more home decor, foyer lighting, and interior inspirations!

Chantal, I love Lizzie and those Converse high-tops are so cool! Thanks for letting be visit for a bit and muse about the storage preferences of shoes. ~ Mari

Piccadilly Boots - A design for Yull Footwear

A few months ago I entered a competition with Yull Footwear to design some British themed shoes. This was the first pair I designed, named Piccadilly, so I thought it was pretty apt to share these with you since I've only just moved to London. I wanted to capture the hustle and bustle of Piccadilly with the red buses. I also wanted to keep my bright and fun signature style, but to incorporate Yull's elegant, practical and classical style into the design too.

You can see more of my shoe designs here.

New Blog design... again!

I know I know, I have an addiction. I feel like I change my blog design more than I change my nail polish these days, but I think this design is sticking around for a while.

I decided to simplify my blog and make it easier to navigate. I think this new design has done the job. It's going to be strange not having bright colours and patterns screaming at me from every corner of my blog, but I like the idea that a simpler design will help my work shine. I am going to miss my rainbow brogue navigation buttons though!

What do you think of the new design? I bet you never thought I'd go for a simple monochrome colour scheme!

Parents & the City - Blog Design

Well guys, It's finally here! The design of Parents & the City is finished and live. This blog design has taught me so much. Mainly that I need to try out wordpress before designing the blog, oops! But it's been one of the most fun projects I've done in a long time.

Since I'm passionate about bright and colourful patterns, I was stoked when Diana gave me free reign to design a New York and baby themed pattern! I was even more excited when she wanted to have a statue of liberty themed logo. Baby Liberty is definitely one of my fav things about this design.

You can find my work in progress on this design here, here and here.

If you would to contact me about blog, logo or pattern design email me at ponychopsshop @ gmail . com

Here's some more details of the new design:

A bit of a spruce up

You may notice I've been a little more absent from the blog recently. It's because I've been busy sprucing everything up! Since the blog got a make over my Etsy shop, Facebook and Twitter got a little jealous and wanted some new designs too!

Here's the Twitter and Etsy make overs, they're just quick make overs but I'm pretty happy with them for now.

I also added a few shoe custom listings to the Etsy shop, so people can find out prices, styles and sizes much easier. I added a digital illustration listing and a custom Russian Doll listing. I also reduced some of my SALE items.

Don't forget if you're ordering any of the none sale items from my shop, you can use the code PCBLOG15 to get 15% off your order. I love my blog followers! So I think it's about time you got your own discount code!

I'm currently working on a new website and some business cards, I'm hoping the website will be up and running by Wednesday.

This weekend it's my year anniversary of becoming Vegan!  I have a pretty exciting giveaway to share with you to celebrate it, I can't wait to show you all.

The New Design is here!!

Phew, it's done! I finally installed the big ass new blog design! There's tons more room for my wonderful sponsors, and loads more room for me to post pictures too. Yay!

This blog design has been a learning experience for sure! I was originally going to pay someone to do it for me. But the thrifter and the creative in me won out and I decided to have a go at doing my own. The fun part has been drawing out my new buttons/logos and picking out the colours! I hand drew the new shoe logo and edited it in illustrator/photoshop. The hard part has been getting to grips with the html/css side of things. I feel like I've learned a whole lot this past two weeks! And I'm so excited to get started on building my own website and making over my Etsy/Facebook/Twitter pages.

My Etsy shop will reopen on Friday with a whole new look too! But for now I'm going to watch some Dexter and let my brain recover from all of the learning and thinking it's had to do.

Please have a look around! I've changed my About me, Sponsor & Contact me pages too :)

A big thank you to all my sponsors for being so patient with me changing button sizes!

Meet Dayna from Mothspit

When I stumbled up the Mothspit blog a few months ago, I immediately fell in love with Dayna's beautiful bright blue hair. It didn't take me long, however, to realise Mothspit isn't just about beautiful hair.

This blog is one of my favorite blogs for inspiration. Dayna is very creative, she's an artist that also makes beautiful fashion accessories from silk, so it's no wonder that her blog is full of visual treats.

Here are some of my fav Mothspit posts:

The Original Skull Brogues

These were my first set of skull shoes! I was inspired by rockabilly style. I still love these colours together, what's better than bubblegum pink and mint green?

Etsy Shop Crush: Stedi

Stedi provide a new, more modern twist to embroidery and cross stitching. They combine beautiful colours and threads with objects you wouldn't usually expect to be embroidered. I love their functional embroidered spice racks and shelves.

Stedi is run by Elena Kirsanova, a Netherland based designer who is inspired by combining different materials such as textile yarns, wood and metal. I'm a big fan of Elena's work, I think the items she sells are so original and unique.

New Blog Layout!

Has anyone noticed my new blog layout? I'm completely crazy about it and can't stop showing it to my friends.

I've known for a while that my blog needed a good spruce up, and fully intended on researching how the hell to do that (when I got round to it, in about 5 years). Then, a couple of months a go, I discovered Chloe at Lazy Explorers was hosting a give away to get a new blog make over by My Billie Designs. I entered thinking nothing would come of it, because I basically never win anything.

A week later I received an email from Melanie at My Billie Designs saying I'd won her give away. I was so happy! Melanie has been fantastic, she's done every detail specifically how I'd wanted it, and I think my blog looks brilliant. It's like she jumped in my brain & somehow made sense of all the jumbled up ideas I had.

I completely recommend you checking out Melanie's design work. Her prices are really reasonable, especially for the amount of time she must spend making everything.
